Burning
Tips

Follow our tips on how to get a safer, purer, cleaner and longer burn from your Beeswax Co. candles.

One Wick Pillar Candles

  • Keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" or less to prevent soot.
  • Ensure candle is kept clean and doesn’t gather dirt or excess dust. If dirty or dusty, carefully clean the top of your candle with paper towel or lint free cloth.
  • To ensure your candle burns cleanly across the top, burn it one hour for each inch in diameter or until the wax pool extends from edge to edge. For example, burn a 2.5" pillar at least 2.5 hours, burn a 4" pillar at least 4 hours.
  • Use a metal tool to straighten a curled or tilted wick to the opposite direction to correct uneven burning.
  • Extinguish candle by pushing wick into melted wax pool with a metal tool preventing afterglow and smoke.

Three Wick Pillar Candles

  • Keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" or less to prevent soot.
  • Ensure candle is kept clean and doesn’t gather dirt or excess dust. If dirty or dusty, carefully clean the top of your candle with paper towel or lint free cloth.
  • Always burn all 3 wicks at the same time.
  • To ensure your candle burns cleanly across the top, burn 3-wick candles until all three beeswax pools join to form one large wax pool (usually from 6 to 9 hours). Repeat the process each time the candle is lit.
  • Use a metal tool to straighten curled or tilted wicks to the opposite direction to correct uneven burning.
  • Extinguish candle by pushing wicks into melted wax pool with a metal tool preventing afterglow and smoke.

Votive Candles

  • Votive candles should always be burned in a proper heat resistant votive holder slightly larger in diameter than the votive itself. Votive candles are meant to burn completely and will not contain their wax pool.
  • Before adding a votive to its holder pour in a few drops of water to just cover the bottom of the container. This will make cleanup easy.
  • Use a metal tool to extinguish a votive by pushing the wick into the wax pool.

Tea Light Candles

  • Always burn tea light candles in their aluminum containers or in a similar heat resistant container. Tea lights are meant to burn continuously until depleted, usually 3 to 5 hours.
  • Use a metal tool to extinguish a tea light by pushing the wick into the wax pool.

Candlesticks and Tapered Candlesticks

  • Always burn our 100% pure beeswax tapers and candlesticks in a secure, stable, heat resistant Taper or Candlestick holder. Even our large diameter Candlesticks should not be burned unless secured in an appropriately sized candle holder.
  • Extinguish candlesticks and tapers with a candle snuffer.
